Massachusetts SafetyWorks Training Grant · Approved Provider
Your Crane Safety Training
Could Be Completely Free.
Massachusetts employers can receive up to $25,000 in reimbursement for employee safety training. Cranes101 is an approved provider — and we’ll help you through every step of the application.
Step-by-Step Guide
How to Get Your Free Crane Safety Training
The SafetyWorks grant is a reimbursement program — training must be pre-approved and a contract signed before any training begins. Follow these steps carefully, and contact Cranes101 early — we’ll help you put together a strong application.
Step 1 · Do This Right Now
Get on the State’s Mailing List
The application window is not open year-round — the state announces each cycle separately, and the window to apply is typically very brief. To be notified when the next cycle opens, email wpsgms@mass.gov and request to be added to the mailing list. Include your company name, contact name and title, complete mailing address, physical address, phone number, and email address. You should also get on Cranes101’s email list as well, to ensure you’ve got multiple ways to stay on top of this valuable and time-sensitive opportunity.
Step 2 · Before You Apply
Contact Cranes101 to Plan Your Training
Reach out to us before you submit your application. We’ll identify which of our OSHA-compliant courses fit your team’s needs and qualify under the grant, help you build a training proposal, and provide everything you need to list us as your provider. This step makes your application stronger — and it costs nothing. Contact Cranes101 →
Step 3 · When the Window Opens
Download the Application & Checklist
Go to the official Mass.gov application page and download the current grant application and the contractual documents checklist. Use the checklist as a final audit before you submit — incomplete applications cause delays.
Step 4 · Submitting
Email Everything as a Single Document
Your completed application and all supporting documents must be typed and emailed as one document — not multiple attachments, not a zip file. Put your company name in the subject line. Follow the checklist exactly — incomplete applications cause delays. For current submission email addresses and full instructions, use the official SafetyWorks application portal and the application checklist downloaded from Mass.gov.
Step 5 · After You Apply — Critical
⚠️ Wait for Your Contract Before Scheduling Anything
Do not schedule or begin any training until your contract with the Commonwealth is signed. Any costs incurred before the contract effective date are not eligible for reimbursement. Invoices dated before contract execution cannot be paid — no exceptions.
Step 6 · Once Your Contract is Signed
Complete Your Training with Cranes101
We’ll get your team scheduled — either at our Boston-area headquarters or on-site at your location anywhere in New England. We use nationally accredited, OSHA-compliant training materials. All training must be completed by June 30. Browse Cranes101 training courses →
Step 7 · After Training
Submit Invoices and Get Reimbursed
Once training is complete, submit your invoices to the Office of Safety for reimbursement as outlined in your contract. Reimbursement invoices must be submitted by July 15. Cranes101 will provide all the documentation you need.
Need help with the application itself? Contact the Office of Safety directly: wpsgms@mass.gov. For training planning and provider information, contact Cranes101.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Cranes101 an approved provider for this grant?
Yes. Cranes101 is listed as an approved provider by the MA Office of Safety. Contact us and we can confirm your specific course of interest and provide all the details you need for your application.
Can I schedule training before my contract is signed?
No — this is the most important rule. Any costs incurred before your signed contract with the Commonwealth are not eligible for reimbursement. Plan with Cranes101 now, but don’t pay for anything until your contract is in hand.
Do Cranes101’s online courses qualify?
No. The grant specifically excludes online certificate courses. Only hands-on, in-person training qualifies. Cranes101’s in-person courses — at our HQ or on-site — are fully eligible.
When does the application window open?
Applications are not accepted on a rolling basis — the state announces each cycle separately. FY26 awards have already been made. Email wpsgms@mass.gov to get on the mailing list and be notified when the FY27 cycle opens.
Can my company apply again if we’ve received this grant before?
Possibly — but the grant does not cover retraining on topics funded by past grants. You’ll need to propose new training topics your team hasn’t completed under a previous grant award.
Who is not eligible for this grant?
Organizations covered by the Jones Act or Longshore Act, police, firefighters, and state or federal employees are not eligible. All other Massachusetts employers covered by the MA Workers’ Compensation Act and in good standing may apply.
How do I request Cranes101 as my training provider?
Contact us before you apply. We’ll give you our official provider name, contact information, course names and descriptions, and pricing for your proposal. Contact Cranes101 →
How many employees can be trained under one grant?
The $25,000 cap is per employer, not per employee. Cranes101 offers a flat rate for groups up to 6, with discounts for additional participants — so you can maximize the number of people trained within your grant amount.
