Let Cranes101 start your crane operator journey with an apprenticeship.

How do I learn to be a crane operator?

Cranes101’s Crane Operator Apprenticeship Connection Program is here to help! Read on to learn more, or just skip right to the application!

What do I need to get certified as crane operator in the US?

Crane operators need to have hands-on training. This training must be on the equipment they will be using in order to receive their initial certification. But without a job in the industry, how can you get that hands-on training? It’s a bit of a Catch-22 that people looking into a career as a crane operator encounter. A crane operator apprenticeship is often the answer!

What’s the best way to get the hours you need to be certified?

The best way to get the hands-on hours you need is to seek employment with your employer. Does yours have a proven track record and stated intention of working with future crane industry professionals? Do they offer free on-the-job training to apprentice level workers?
There are plenty of these out there, but they can be hard to find.

Do you currently work in the heavy equipment industry, or at a workplace that uses heavy equipment such as cranes etc?

If you’re currently employed, the first step would be to see if your current employer has any advancement opportunities available and would be willing to train you on their equipment. If they do and are, great! There is grant funding available to make that happen, although the application window is quite narrow.
Once you’ve put in your hands-on operational hours required for the certification, then you’re ready to get your OSHA-required National Mobile Crane Operator License, certified by Cranes101!

What if I’m not working in the industry at this time, or my employer doesn’t offer training or advancement at this time?

Cranes101 can help! Our Apprenticeship Connection Program connects eager, motivated job-seekers and the employers seeking them. We help would-be apprentices find employers happy to invest the time and energy into their crane training.

What are some of the in-demand, skilled jobs I can do once I have my National Mobile Crane Operator License in hand?

Crane operators are in demand in all sorts of industries! Some of the most common of these include sign hangers, arborists, and HVAC specialists. Cranes101 is in the loop, and usually hears about other new and exciting opportunities first.
