July 2024 Accidents Report

We know from experience: many job-site accidents happen because of either a lack of training or equipment failure. Be proactive in protecting your people and equipment.  Sign up for training or schedule your next inspection with Cranes101. But first, read the June 2024 accidents.

Crane overturn

This article was originally published with more pictures on July 15, 2024 on Vertikal.net.

Last Tuesday a four axle All Terrain overturned on to industrial buildings in Plankstadt on the west side of Heidelberg.
We understand that there were no serious injuries. The damage is said to be expensive and includes both the site where the crane was working and adjoining properties.

It looks as though the Grove crane from the Florian Herbold fleet was rigged with a reduced counterweight and fully extended main boom, although it is possible that the outriggers retracted when the crane went over – although the limited space suggests not.

Crane fire in UK

This article is reprinted from vertikal.net, published July 22, 2024.

A crane fire brought traffic to a standstill on the A38 between Plympton and Efford near Plymouth, Devon in the UK, this morning.

The crane, a Liebherr LTC 1050-3.1 city type All Terrain from the Ainscough Crane Hire fleet was travelling in the west bound lanes when the superstructure burst into flames. The east bound lanes were also closed due to the smoke levels and fear of an explosion. The regional National Highways agency said there was a substantial spillage from the incident.

We understand that no one was hurt in the incident.
